Happy Easter!

Easter Week Happenings

  • Thursday:  A change of plans.  English classes were cancelled as the school scheduled a sports day.  Initially we were disappointed as our opportunity to tell the resurrection story vanished.  Lorne and Pastor Joshua attended the sports day opening ceremonies and stayed to watch the first few activities.  Imagine Lorne’s surprise when he was asked to be a “substitute father” for a fourth grader whose father was killed a few months ago. We played two-member team volleyball, and even won some games.  (Please pray that we can use this as a relationship-building opportunity to help this and other students come to know the love of the Heavenly Father.)
  • Good Friday:  We had a good time of worship, reflection, and fellowship with two other churches that joined us.
  • Egg Distribution:  It took less than half an hour to give away 120 Easter Eggs.  We had opportunity to give them to people we know and some we are not acquainted with.  Please pray that God will allow follow-up conversations to talk more about why we did that.  (Next year we need at least 100 more eggs!)
  • Garlic Harvest:  Some of our members missed church to go help their family with the garlic harvest.  There is an abundant harvest and not enough workers.  The farmers are concerned that the imports from other countries have driven down the price to about 1/3 of last year.  It is a lot of work for not much money.  (How different from the harvest in the spiritual kingdom where eternal life never loses its value.)

Praying Together

  • Praise the Lord for the enthusiastic participation in the Easter outreach.  Please pray for opportunities to share more with some of the people who received the eggs.
  • Please pray as we meet with the elementary school administration to request dates for upcoming camps.  We have teams willing to come but do not yet have approval for the camp dates.
  • Please pray for Christian believers as they spend time with families for the “Clear and Bright Festival.”  It is a time of care for the graves of ancestors and remembering the legacy of those who have gone before.  Traditional families use the time to worship ancestors or to pray that the spirits of the ancestors will provide protection and prosperity.  Please pray for Christian brothers and sisters to have wise ways of expressing respect for those who have gone before, while they resist participating in non-Christian worship practices.
