Moon Festival is BBQ Time
Moon Festival (Mid-Autumn Festival) is one of the important events in the calendar year. It is one of the times that family members try to return home to be with those they love.
Frequently families will eat outdoors around a small BBQ, with the opportunity to view the Full Moon. It is a festive time when people like to be with each other. Eating together is an important part of the experience.
Stores are advertising foods and supplies that can be purchased to celebrate. On our trip to Costco last week the pictured BBQ sauce was being promoted. People are being asked to add a new flavour to the traditional experience.
Believers in Christ who are the minority in the family-clan often find these times difficult. Respected elders will often insist on everyone participating in the traditional worship of ancestors and local gods. When Christ-followers request to be excused and pray only to Christ, conflict occurs.
Please pray for God to create opportunities to explain belief in Christ rather than experience conflict as families gather.
Living in Taiwan – Foreigners like it.
Last week there was an article proudly announcing that expatriates like living in Taiwan. If you want to see what they like, click here.
Praise and Prayer
- The adjustment of our bodies to this time zone is slowly happening. We are enjoying being able to see many friends and visit with them.
- Pastor Joshua and Ilaine will be travelling to Europe for their honeymoon. Please pray God’s blessing on them as they travel. Underneath are the Everlasting Arms.
- Thursday morning will be the first English classes for this semester. We will be telling the stories about Moses, and how he learned to respect God. Thank-you for remembering us and the students in prayer.
